September 1

Day 2

1. TURN IN: Did you remember to get your parent letter signed? How about your AUP? If you have either one (or both) signed, turn them into the basket. If you forgot, please hand them in by tomorrow.

2. QUIZ: Last night's homework was to read & review my assessment philosophy / grading policy. How well did you do? Take this short quiz to see how well you can remember some of the major ideas. (Don't worry if you don't remember much; just do the best you can, and see what daily homework quizzes are like.)

3. GROUP ACTIVITY: In groups of 3 or 4, discuss and brainstorm answers to the 1 question that your group receives. It will be one of these:
Round 1:
    • What does it mean to "learn" something?
    • What are different ways to "learn" something?
    • How do people show others what they have learned?
Round 2:
    • What is "history"?
    • Why is it important to learn history?
    • How do people learn about history?
Take notes in your group while you brainstorm your own question.
Then, take your own notes on the whole class discussion  that follows. (You'll need your own paper for this part)

4. HOMEWORK: Read and take notes: Pages 4-6 in your textbook. Remember, 15-20 minutes of homework is the target. Take notes as you read (in whatever style or process you like) to help identify and learn about the most important things contained there. Bring your notes with you to class tomorrow. They (the notes) are evidence of your homework.
