Today we start with a QUIZ over last night's vocabulary assignment. Open your Google Doc with definitions (or get out your paper definitions) and use it during this quiz.

When finished, you should turn to your other chart, the one where you're tracking economic issues. We'll be discussing and reviewing this form today. If that section of the chart is empty, you might want to take a look at the section on page 252  called "Society and the Role of Women" or visit one of the websites below to learn more about the economic issues that faced the Ottoman Empire:
NOTE: Be sure to record the source of all information as you collect it. Show the page number from the text or the author / reference info from the online source.

DISCUSSION over yesterday's  Primary Source   activity.
Be ready to share your responses to the following questions:
  1. How did each side rely on technological innovations to help achieve their goal? What evidence from the text supports your answer?
  2. How did each side rely on their religious connections and/or beliefs during the long siege? What evidence from the text supports your answer?
  3. Which side, in your opinion, had better leadership? What evidence from the text supports your answer?
  4. What questions do you have about this event in history that weren't answered in the text?

HOMEWORK: Tonight make sure that you read about the Safavid Empire (256-261) and that you complete the second row on both charts. Find/learn the definitions of:

administrator (258)

successor (258)

Safavids (256)

Shah (256)

Orthodoxy (258)

Shah Esma’il (256)

Shah Abbas (258)

and complete the Safavid row on the other chart as well.
