Yesterday you had a chance to start organizing your first assessment using a Google Doc Template called Assessment 1 Organizing Plan. Today we'll work on how to turn those notes and ideas into a well-written assessment.

PartQuestion to answerYOUR answer / choicesPg
Thesis (How to write a thesis statement)How do geographic features play a role in how humans interact and build their communities? What you write here will become the LAST sentence in your FIRST (introductory) paragraph.

x

Which 3 or 4 of the civilizations will you talk about in your assessment? You may want to name these 3 or 4 items in your opening paragraph as well.

x

Paragraph 1 (How to organize research)What geographic examples and main points will you use from your 1st civilization? This will become the focus of the FIRST paragraph of the BODY of your assessment. Include 3 or 4 specific examples, and CITE their sources.
Paragraph 2What geographic examples and main points will you use from your 2nd civilization? This will become the focus of the SECOND paragraph of the BODY, just like the first.
Paragraph 3What geographic examples and main points will you use from your 3rd civilization? This will be the focus of your THIRD paragraph of the body, just like above. (And if you've decided to talk about another, add another paragraph to do that next)
ConclusionWhat are the main points that you will emphasize? What final ideas do you want to leave with your reader? Here's where you will sum up and conclude your assessment. Restate your thesis statement to remind your reader what your main points were.

x

References (How to write references)What resources will you use to support your ideas and provide specific information?Be sure to include ANY sources of information you used in your list of references.

Today we'll be moving forward in your assessment. Work on any of the steps above, and keep working on it for homework. To be ready for class tomorrow, you'll want to be well into the actual writing of your assessment. Maybe not all the way finished, but at least to paragraph 3 or 4.
