Day 49--

 I will be able to identify how some  rulers tried to use the ideas of the Enlightenment in how they governed. I will create a short slide show presentation as I review the material from last night's homework. I will create a slideshow with others and turn it in before leaving class today. This is a formative assessment. My work will directly help me later as I complete my summative assessment for this assessment cycle.

Standard: History 4.2 -- Understand and analyzes causal factors that have shaped major events in history.

Key Question to Answer: How do people challenge, change, and build on the ideas of those who have come before them?

The work of scientists such as Copernicus, Harvey, Napier, and Newton, 
led to
the work of Enlightened philosophers such as Locke, Rousseau, Voltaire and Diderot, which led tochanges in the way traditional rulers -- kings, queens, emperors, etc. -- thought about their use of power and how they could improve the lives of those around them

Last night's homework reading (Chapter 10, Section 3: The Impact of the Enlightenment (318-327)) introduced you to the actions of 4 European monarchs who considered the Enlightened ideas as sources of change and reform. We'll look at the success or failure of those efforts today to see how well they challenged, changed, or built upon the ideas of those who came before them.

Open a Google Presentation called Enlightened Rulers, then make a copy for yourself and your group. Work together, using your homework and/or textbook and/or outside sources to include areas where the rulers attempted to make enlightened reforms, and where they failed, or failed to take action. Additional instructions are on the second slide.

When finished, turn in one copy from your group to the Daily Work Dropbox. Afterward, you may continue working on last night's assignments (or other assignments), or look ahead and start working on your written assessment. 

And you might want to mark your calendars. We'll be finishing this assessment cycle this week, with an open-note, multiple choice test on Friday (4/19), and your written assessment is due on Monday (4/22). More details and links that can help you are available here.
