Last night's homework: Turn in your AUP if you haven't already. Then, do you have any questions about last night's homework? 
Read pages 3-8. Answer questions 1, 2 & 4 on page 8, using what you have read to help you answer. 
Remember: When you answer a question, make sure your answer has the subject included in it, and shows the page number 
where you found your answer as a parenthetical citation. 
For example, question 2 says:
What are the four main characteristics of a state? 
Your answer should read:
The four main characteristics of a state are ....  (4).

Ask questions if you've got them. If not, it's time for a QUIZ

As you complete the quiz and wait for others, review last night's assignment, pages 7-8, where the text discusses the words and meaning of the preamble to the Constitution: 
We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

What does each of those 6 purposes mean to us today? We'll take a look at some modern events to decide if the Preamble accurately describes the role of Government today.

Then, can you find more examples of your own? Use a news site (such as those below) to find your own example of a government action (aka public policy) that demonstrates the government fulfilling one of the 6 purposes from the Preamble. Be ready to share what you find in a small group and to share the link of the story with Mr. Knowles.  


HOMEWORK: READ pages 10-14 and answer questions 1-4 on page 14.
