First day of class!
Welcome to American Government.
Today we'll take care of a little business before moving on to the real focus of our course.
  1. Please fill out the first day survey on your Chromebook. This tells me some important information about you that I'll need later on, so please fill it out as accurately and completely as possible.
  2. While you're filling out the survey, you'll be receiving a number of handouts (Class rules & policies, grading philosophy, AUP). We'll be going over them later, so if you have questions about this class, hang on to them for a discussion at the end of class.
  3. Should Voting Be Mandatory? For many people, the act of voting is the very symbol of democracy. But voting rates have been on a long decline. Some people argue that making voting in elections a REQUIREMENT would go a long way to help our democracy, our government, and our society. What do you think? Should US Citizens who are able to vote be required to? Read two sides of the debate on page 22 of Upfront Magazine.
  4. If you finish before other students, feel free to find another article in the magazine to read.
