Day 74--

Learning Target ImageWhat will I be able to do when I've finished this lesson? How will I  accomplish this task?  How will I show that I have done this? How well will I have to do this?
I will be able to explain reasons why some people choose not to vote in US elections. I will read an article and work with some data tables and graphs along with 1 or 2 other students.  I will create a slogan, jingle, song, or ad campaign to encourage non-voters to vote. This is a formative assessment; it won't have a direct impact on my course grade, but it will help prepare me for the summative assessment on this unit.

Last night's assignment was to read Chapter 6.4: (Nonvoting: 141-144, Questions 2-5).
Today you'll have a chance to look at how this issue has played out in the years since your textbook was published, and to try to find solutions to some of the problems people face in choosing to vote.

1) Use at least one of the articles on the left, and at least one of the charts/data tables on the right to understand the issue.
3) Create a plan, slogan, jingle, song, or ad campaign to encourage non-voters in that category to vote.
4) Be ready to present your solution to the class.

If you finish before class ends, you might turn your attention to your final written assessment, due May 31st.
Following today's class activities and the assignments / discussions of the last few days, you may find you have enough information to write the next section of your final essay for the class.

q  Voter behavior: Do you see yourself fitting into any identifiable categories? Do you think you'll follow the tendencies of others like you? Do you see yourself as becoming an active voter, casual voter, or non-voter? What issues do you think will be most important to you in deciding how to use your vote? Explain your reasoning.

No Homework tonight, unless you've fallen behind a bit.
Get yourself caught up!
