Day 2--

TURN IN: Did you remember to get your parent or guardian to sign the course syllabus? If so, please hand it in. If not, please hand it in tomorrow.

SMALL GROUP ACTIVITY: In groups of 3 or 4, discuss and brainstorm answers to this question:
Why do we have government? 
Appoint a group member to serve as recorder, so you can report back what you came up with. 
You may use resources provided to you, including:
  • The Preamble to the Constitution: 
We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence,] promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

ALL CLASS DISCUSSION: When finished with our group discussions, we'll move to a class discussion of this question; be ready to talk. For those who don't wish to contribute to the conversation, you may write your answers instead. 

HOMEWORK: We start in with an assignment from the textbook: Chapter 1, Section 1 -- Principles of Government (3-8)
Answer questions 1, 2, & 4 -- and for 2 & 4, don't just list them; describe them.
