Learning Target ImageWhat will I be able to do when I've finished this lesson? What idea, topic, or subject is important for me to learn and understand so that I can do this? What will I do to show that I can do this? How well will I have to do this?
I will be able to explain the basic structure of the US Constitution.
I need to look for the patterns and organization of the Constitution to see how it sets up the government of the United States.
I will create an outline of the Constitution, identifying key ideas for each section. This is a formative assessment. It should accurately show the basic organization of the Constitution so I can understand its details later on.

Today we begin a short, mini-unit that investigates the "Supreme Law of the Land"....The US Constitution. (Unit Handout available in PDF)
To successfully complete this unit you will need to do a number of different things:

1) Create an outline of the Constitution, understanding what the different Sections and Articles include. (Handout provided) Due: Feb 22
2) Memorize, understand, and recite the Preamble   Due: Feb 25-27
3) Participate in an online discussion; ongoing Feb 22-28
4) Pass a test that checks your understanding of the Constitution  >>This is NOT an open-note test. Due: Feb 28

Begin your investigation of the Constitution by creating a short outline that shows how it is organized, and what each section deals with (Due at start of tomorrow's class, Feb. 22)

Also for tomorrow, read the Chapter in Brief (page 255) that gives an overview of the legislative branch. We'll be investigating that part of the Constitution in class tomorrow.

And start working on that Preamble! Translate it, memorize it, practice it.
