Last night's homework was about the Rights of the Accused (528-535) and it included a number of terms that you may or may not have heard before, and which can have some fairly complicated definitions. Today you'll be working with the text and a few key websites to understand one of them, then to share your understanding with others. Here's what you need to do:
  1. Get a slip of paper from Mr. Knowles with a word or phrase on it. Put your name on the back.
  2. Review the section of the textbook that deals with the term (the page number's on the slip of paper) and try to fill in the the boxes on it USING YOUR BEST HANDWRITING/PRINTING. Use a black pen if possible.
  3. Use the following websites if you need more information or need it explained in a different way. You may need to use more than one to get a good definition and other details for your particular term:
  4. For your term, make sure you can identify and explain:
    1. Where the term appears in the Constitution (Is it in the Bill of Rights? Which amendment? Or is it elsewhere in the Constitution? Where?)
    2. What it means - write a definition in your own words that makes sense to you. Ask for help if you need it
    3. Why we have it -- what is its purpose? What did someone think it's a good idea to have?
    4. What are its limits? At some point, it probably doesn't apply. Where? What's the point where it doesn't have an impact on people's rights?
  5. When you finish, turn your slip of paper in.
